Hippo Exchange Club, Singapore
The word "Globalisation" is more commonly used today than perhaps 10 years ago. Today, we find ourselves working along side with expatriates from all places, riding on a train, or dining with them. In Singapore, we call them "foreign talents", in America they call them "aliens".

But how well do we know them? Not much I suppose. Which is why we, The Hippo Exchange Club (HEC), formed ourselves under the umbrella of Joo Chiat Community Club Youth Group in June 1999 with an intention to break the ice of those common misunderstandings we have of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Judgemental as we are, we have to bring down those walls to equip ourselves with the ability to blend in well with this complex environment.

We aim to promote multi-language acquisition in a natural environment achieved through organizing activities such as homestay programs, holding seminars and workshops, or any cross-cultural activities. We are also closely affiliated to other Hippos in other parts of the world such as Japan, South Korea, America and Mexico.
